Thermography
In strength simulations of the rotor shown above, the aluminum Airdrive Rotor reduces displacement under high load by approximately half compared to the ZAION Airdrive Rotor.

In 2004, the first CERTATE was equipped with an aluminum rotor. Metal is a material that requires rigidity and durability, and it was the perfect choice at the time.
ZAION, a high-rigidity, carbon-containing resin developed by DAIWA, was later adopted as a rotor material for CERTATE. Since then, CERTATE has consistently been equipped with ZAION rotors. ZAION, which is much lighter than metal, aligned with DAIWA's philosophy. As long as it provides the rigidity and durability necessary for a rotor, light weight and low inertia combined with comfortable operation are major advantages. This philosophy has not changed to this day.
In 2024, CERTATE was equipped with an Airdrive Rotor. This rotor, which has a well-balanced spherical shape, low inertia, and at the same time delivers high rigidity, overturned conventional wisdom. The material was ZAION.
Behind the scenes, however, another possibility emerged. With an Airdrive Rotor, even heavy aluminum can maintain the lightness and low inertia required for small spinning reel rotors. This was the moment when technological evolution overcame long-standing unwritten rules at DAIWA and created a new reel.

A special edition featuring an aluminum rotor with more strength than necessary, delivering maximum power for specific fishing styles that demand it.
A full-aluminum CERTATE HD is revived for the first time in more than twenty years, incorporating the latest technologies such as Airdrive Design and a full metal (AL) Monocoque Body. It possesses strength beyond what is required, yet maintains comfortable operability. Emotional texture. Now is the time to proudly place it in the hands of anglers who seek it.
Because it is full aluminum, there is fishing that can be realized.

The philosophy that CERTATE has protected for generations delivers comfortable operability that suits any angler and solid rigidity that inspires confidence. While inheriting this tradition, a new chapter begins in 2026. CERTATE HD uses an aluminum rotor while maintaining the core performance of CERTATE.
In small spinning reels, the rotor should be light. Based on this belief, DAIWA did not use metal rotors after the first model. However, with technological evolution, this limitation has finally been lifted. The uniquely shaped Airdrive Rotor, which looks as if it were carved from a sphere, has made it possible to manufacture an aluminum rotor while maintaining the low inertia essential for small spinning reels.
Combined with the full metal (AL) Monocoque Body, this synergy delivers unprecedented rigidity, excellent winding performance, and a distinctly metallic rotational feel. It is a special edition designed to excel in demanding scenarios such as fighting large fish, using iron plate vibrators, blade jigs, and large minnows.
Accordingly, the lineup is intentionally limited: from the 3000 size for large seabass, large trout, squid metal, and boat eging, to the 4000 size for large seabass, Hirasuzuki, surf fishing, and light jigging from boats, extending to the 5000 size for even broader applications.
In addition, the reel is equipped with ATD Tough drag using high-durability carbon washers, high-strength SUS drag knob nuts, a high-strength SUS arm lever axis, a crank bail that ensures reliable line feeding to the line roller, and a newly designed Magsealed line roller with improved waterproofing. Enhancements in materials and structure are applied throughout for tough usage.
Beyond specifications, the emotional texture is a privilege unique to HD. A glittering luster from a new paint finish decorates the black base exterior. Two additional ball bearings have been added to the spool shaft, bringing the total to twelve. This improves drag smoothness and reduces resistance during drag operation.
From body to rotor, CERTATE HD achieves high rigidity and excellent winding performance through its all-metal construction. For anglers who demand additional strength—because it is full aluminum, there is fishing that can be realized.

Equipped with an aluminum Airdrive Rotor, the CERTATE HD is DAIWA’s only small spinning reel made entirely of aluminum. An integrated full-metal (AL) Monocoque Body and a thick aluminum engine plate deliver powerful performance. The aluminum Airdrive Rotor rotates smoothly, laying the line evenly onto the oscillating aluminum Airdrive Spool.
This full-aluminum small spinning reel, precisely assembled from high-rigidity, high-precision metal components, delivers an unprecedented sense of quality in hand.
The metallic texture of full aluminum is a defining aesthetic of the CERTATE HD. Fishing gear possesses qualities that cannot be expressed by numbers alone. Smooth rotation that makes winding a pleasure, the taut black engine plate, spool, and handle, and the glossy new paint finish all combine to create a strong sense of value and ownership.
The full-aluminum CERTATE HD is not just about strength—it invites anglers to experience its refined texture with all their senses.

What defines the strength of the CERTATE HD with its aluminum Airdrive Rotor? Simply put, it is stronger than necessary.
Built on the inherently robust CERTATE platform, the lineup focuses on sizes 3000 and above, engineered for thick lines and high-load applications where rigidity and winding performance are critical.
Powerful hooksets on hard-mouthed fish, uncompromising fights, and stable retrieval of large, high-resistance lures are all confidently supported. This surplus of strength delivers assured, comfortable fishing performance.

The synergy between the aluminum Airdrive Rotor and the full-metal (AL) Monocoque Body enhances winding performance under high load beyond that of standard CERTATE models of the same size (based on internal comparative testing). Reduced rotor deflection allows power to be transmitted instantly under load, enabling confident battles with large fish and smooth control of heavy, high-resistance lures.
Moderate inertial stability ensures smooth retrieval, stabilizes lure action, and helps reduce angler fatigue.

Compared with CERTATE of the same size and the same drag setting, hooking power is approximately 8% higher (according to internal comparative tests). The rigid aluminum rotor deflects less than a ZAION rotor under sudden load, allowing hooking force to be transmitted more directly to the fish.

Small spinning reel rotors should be light – this has long been DAIWA's belief. Light rotors and low inertia define the operability of small spinning reels, which is why CERTATE traditionally used ZAION rotors.
However, metal rotors offer advantages for certain fishing styles, such as targeting large fish or retrieving high-resistance lures. High rigidity minimizes deflection and improves power transmission.
If metal compromises operability, it defeats the purpose. Therefore, aluminum rotors must deliver rigidity advantages while maintaining low inertia. Achieving a full-aluminum CERTATE by combining an aluminum rotor with a full metal (AL) Monocoque Body was not easy.
The breakthrough came with the Airdrive Rotor technology introduced in 2022. Its rational spherical shape reduced inertia while increasing strength. This finally made a metal rotor feasible.
And in 2026, CERTATE HD was born – a special edition with an aluminum Airdrive Rotor optimized for specific fishing styles, representing the culmination of DAIWA's technological evolution.

Airdrive Design is a design concept for next-generation spinning reels, consisting of up to four technologies: Airdrive bail, Airdrive spool, and Airdrive shaft, with the installation of an Airdrive rotor as a mandatory condition.
CERTATE HD uses a higher-rigidity aluminium material for the Airdrive rotor. It is specially designed to provide even greater rigidity while maintaining comfortable operability due to low inertia.
The displacement (reflection size) of CERTATE HD's aluminium Airdrive rotor is reduced to about half compared to CERTATE's ZAION Airdrive rotor (according to our comparative tests). On the other hand, the weight is increased by approximately 15g, and the inertia is increased by about 30% (according to our comparative tests).
In strength simulations of the rotor shown above, the aluminum Airdrive Rotor reduces displacement under high load by approximately half compared to the ZAION Airdrive Rotor.

The integrated full-metal (AL) Monocoque Body delivers exceptional winding power, rigidity, and durability. Its one-piece structure dramatically improves power efficiency compared to conventional two-piece designs.
Combined with the aluminum Airdrive Rotor, CERTATE HD becomes a fully aluminum compact spinning reel with enhanced winding performance, rigidity, and durability.
CERTATE HD features DAIWA’s innovative technologies, which are also used in the CERTATE series. These include, among others, the Airdrive design and the full metal Monocoque body, both of which have been meticulously adopted down to the smallest detail. The quality of the CERTATE, characterized by high rigidity and exceptional operating comfort, cannot be measured solely by technical specifications.

Airdrive Rotor
DAIWA continues to pursue improved rotational response in spinning reel rotors. Based on its proprietary theory, DAIWA developed a new rotor shape resembling a precisely cut sphere. By thoroughly eliminating unnecessary material while maintaining rigidity, significant weight reduction was achieved. As a result, winding lightness, operability, and sensitivity have been dramatically improved.
Airdrive Bail
For many years, DAIWA spinning reels have used an Air Bail featuring a hollow tubular structure that combines light weight with high rigidity. Its unique shape smoothly guides the line to the line roller, enabling trouble-free winding.
To further reduce weight, the Airdrive Bail has been made slimmer while maintaining the required strength. The line angle has also been optimized to ensure smoother line transfer from the bail to the line roller, resulting in an even lighter and more trouble-free operation.
Airdrive Spool
Through precise strength calculations, unnecessary material has been thoroughly removed to achieve lightweight construction. In addition to the thin-walled spool skirt, the internal structure has also been optimized without compromise.
The lightweight spool improves operability, including smooth winding and casting performance. A newly developed drag click mechanism with reduced operating resistance further enhances drag responsiveness. CERTATE HD features a black-based design that highlights the refined texture of aluminum.
Airdrive Shaft
The linear shaft system used by DAIWA employs a non-contact structure between the main shaft and pinion gear, minimizing frictional resistance. The Airdrive Shaft further supports both ends of the pinion gear with ball bearings, efficiently transmitting handle input to maximum rotor rotation. High-precision collars supporting the main shaft also significantly reduce rotational noise.

DAIWA's proprietary Magsealed technology, offering superior waterproofing and durability, is applied to the pinion and line roller.
The pinion gear is made from high-strength, wear-resistant material, enabling efficient power transmission from the drive gear to the rotor without loss.

A high-rigidity stainless steel (SUS) main shaft is used, forming the core of rotational performance.

A newly developed waterproof sealing system is used at the handle screw-in section, enhancing water resistance.

Like CERTATE, CERTATE HD features the ultra-precise MC Tough Digigear, delivering smooth and quiet rotation. DAIWA's proprietary surface treatment increases gear hardness, significantly reducing damage caused by sudden high loads.

The integrated full metal (AL) Monocoque Body delivers exceptional power, rigidity, and durability. Its robust one-piece construction ensures smooth, silky rotation and dramatically improves power efficiency compared to conventional two-piece body structures.
In addition to the aluminum Airdrive Rotor, which is the most distinctive feature of CERTATE HD, heavy-duty design elements are incorporated throughout the reel to enhance power, rigidity, and durability. Furthermore, improvements have been made to the overall feel and usability, including an increased number of bearings.
By taking advantage of the rigidity of aluminum, the CERTATE HD rotor has been thinned by approximately 20% compared to the standard CERTATE rotor. In addition, unnecessary material has been removed from the top surface.
Furthermore, a strategically placed rib structure inside the rotor enhances rigidity, winding performance, and hooking power while maintaining light weight and comfortable operability.
A newly designed Magsealed line roller has been developed for tougher applications. By adding a water-blocking wall inside the line roller, water intrusion toward the Magsealed area is reduced, further improving magnetic fluid retention. As a result, the line roller offers even greater resistance to water entry.
Compared to felt washers, ATD Tough uses highly durable carbon drag washers equivalent to those found in SALTIGA, offering more than three times the durability. Combined with a special grease, stable drag performance is maintained even during long fights with large fish.
Inside the drag knob nut a high-strength SUS (stainless steel) component has been incorporated in line with ATD Tough specifications.
* LT models use SUS components from size 4000 upward.
Designed for the use of large and heavy-class lures, the bail features a crank-shaped design. While reliably guiding tensioned line to the line roller, it also suppresses accidental bail opening that may occur during line release.
The shaft supporting the arm lever, which holds the line roller and bail and is integrated with the aluminum rotor, has been upgraded to high-strength SUS stainless steel.
* LT models adopt SUS components from size 4000 upward.
Additional ball bearings have been installed on the spool shaft and inside the drag system, resulting in a total of twelve ball bearings.

The unwavering trust CERTATE has earned from a wide range of anglers is the result of a carefully refined balance between high rigidity and comfortable operability, achieved through the continuous integration of state-of-the-art technology.
The BODY UNIT delivers exceptional durability, high rigidity, and powerful winding performance, while the FRONT UNIT optimizes weight reduction, low inertia, and overall balance. The evolution and integration of these technologies form the foundation that gave birth to CERTATE HD.

Rotation like you have never felt before. The future of DAIWA Spinning Reels is AIRDRIVE Design. By reducing the weight of rotor, spool & bail assembly, a lighter rotation is achieved. The effortless rotation allows the angler to feel the true joy of trouble free function. This new chapter starts with 22' Exist.
Consequences of the AIRDRIVE Design
Design reflects the future.
The stand out features of the AIRDRIVE Spool would have to be the newly shaped spool skirt and the simple single silver coloured cosmetic. Just by looking at the spool it is clear the structure has been redeveloped, reducing the weight and maximising the feeling of presence.
Reducing the spool weight creates many benefits for a reel; the total weight of reel is reduced, oscillation is improved, less resistance during winding and rotation, better balance when attached to the rod and of course the reel feels light and easy to fish.
In addition, DAIWA has added a skirt to the bottom of the spool edge to prevent line getting caught behind the spool and tangling with the main shaft.
The drag sound and clicker has also been redesigned to create a higher pitch drag sound.
Friction free rotation.
Vertical rotational force from the handle is converted by the pinion gear to horizontal rotation. The mainshaft goes through the pinion gear to support the oscillation of the spool. To create a smoother oscillation and rotation, improvement to the mainshaft and pinion gear was required.
Most DAIWA spinning reels use linear shaft which has a non contact structure between the mainshaft and the pinion gear itself. The linear shaft creates less friction resistance which leads to smoother rotation along with minimal power loss.
The newly developed AIRDRIVE Shaft has taken the same benefits and improved further. AIRDRIVE Shaft also has a non contact structure between the mainshaft and the pinion gear. In addition to this, both ends of pinion gear are now supported with bearings to relay the crank power from the handle to the rotor with a higher level of efficiency.
AIRDRIVE Shaft creates the feel of smooth, quiet rotation and provides anglers with torque and power.
Trouble free future.
DAIWA’s well known technology AIR BAIL has seen further improvement with the concept of AIRDRIVE. The AIRDRIVE bail is the next evolutionary step in bail design and perfectly matched with the new AIRDRIVE concept. DAIWA succeeded in designing a somewhat thinner bail that nevertheless offers the required strength and further decreases the reel weight. Compared to the 18' Exist the new AIDRIVE bail reduces the weight by 33% (Size 2500).
Creating the bail in a smaller diameter reduces weight to create stress free and user-friendly fishing experience. DAIWA has adjusted the angle of bail setting to improve the line movement into the roller. Careful attention was given to the roller and slider and individual design alterations were done for each size of 22' Exist, perfectly adjusting the line management for each size of the reel.
Low inertia is the key.
A lighter rotor increases the functionality of small spinning reels. The lighter and more compact rotor will require less initial force to rotate, creating that feeling of low inertia and effortless start up. The new AIRDRIVE rotor is made of Zaion. The robustness is the same as at the 18' Exist but nevertheless DAIWA was able to reduce the weight of the 22' Exist significantly. The goals during the development were to ensure an extremely light and smooth running.
The rotor weight has been reduced by 16% compared to the previous edition (#2500) and sets a new benchmark regarding rotor design.

The MagSealed principle is based on a special magnetic oil, which has been developed by the NASA to transport fuel to the starships based on the magnetic principle. Such an oil for reel production is not available in the super market. It has to be manufactured under most difficult circumstances. The embedded ferric oxide, which is necessary for the magnetic field has a diameter of 1/100.000mm and is that small, that the surface of a single particle has the tenth of the size of an influenza virus.
The molecules in this new "metal oil" are capable of changing. If they are exposed to a magnetic field, they change their shape and the oil forms a fluid seal. This magnetic oil is that strong, that it would stick to a magnetic bucket, even if the bottom was cut out.
Such a seal, based on the principle of liquid magnetic oil produces nearly no friction, isolates perfectly and prevents even penetrating of little dust particles. The big challenge for the DAIWA engineers was the development of a reel, which is designed for the principle of the magnetic oil to generate a kind of liquid membrane, that prevents water penetration. The MagSeal design is based on the purpose to keep water away from a spinning reel. First of all for sea anglers this is an amazing idea - since it promises a longer life span. No corrosion, better function. If salt water penetrates the reel and dries, it crystallizes, corrodes the gearing and affects the ball bearings.
The simplest solution for implementing a sealed mechanism, would have been the usage of a rubber seal. But this would cause such a strong friction, that an isolation of the rotor and axis would have been impossible. Only the use of a metallic oil in combination with a magnet provides the desired isolation effect without heavy friction. Years of research and development were required to develop such a reel isolation.
We call this liquid isolation MagSealed.
FUNCTIONALITY
To prevent the penetration of water, dust particles or salt crystals between rotor and reel body, we have developed a nearly frictionless barrier based on magnetic oil, which cannot be overcome by neither water nor smallest particles. The result is a silky-smooth running.

The smoother a line roller turns, the less friction emerges between line and roller. If delicate salt or dirt particles penetrate the line roller, it is continuously dragged and the friction is considerably increased.
The magnetic MagSealed oil forms a barrier, which prevents the intrusion of water and therefore also of salt and dirt particles into the line roller, which could affect the free rotation.

MagSealed® Ball BearingsOur DAIWA technology further on changes the fishing tackle market. Our engineers succeeded in further devolving the Mag Sealed invention to a new level. First we sealed the axis, then the line roller and now the ball bearing!
MagSealed is a new chapter in the history of the fishing reel. Thanks to our targeted research and development, we succeeded in integrating MagSealed into a ball bearing. For a long lifespan and a silky-smooth running over a long period. A revolution!

Machined, digitally developed gearing for maximum performance and endurance. Embeded in our lightweight reel body, it transmits smoothly and efficiently the power of the handle directly to the rotor. Like this you can concentrate on fishing completely.
Our DAIWA engineers completely perfected the technology of milled gears with the Digigear II and newest with the Tough Digigear (TDG). The shape and surface of the gear teeth enable the construction of gears with extraordinary smooth running, smallest resistance and extremely long lifespan.
Result – A real evolution for the strength of the Digigear!

ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) stands for the further development of the UTD drag.
The ATD drag is excelled by an even more delicate drag transition and as a consequence thereof is perfectly suited for the use of braided lines.
Contrasting to the UTD drag, at the ATD already at the beginning of a strike the drag starts smoothly, then increases to its pre-set drag rating in a fraction of a second, thus eliminating line breakage at the strike.

With 22' Exist DAIWA has managed to improve the existing Twistbuster II and introduce the technology Twistbuster III. By adding another groove on the line roller, itself, the flattening effect of the line when retrieved is reduced and this as a result decreases line twist. DAIWA has also installed Magsealed Line Roller to negate the harsh effects of saltwater and maintain performance long term.
